John Goldthorpe

John Harry Goldthorpe (nacido el 27 de mayo de 1935) es un sociólogo Británico. Es emérito en el Nuffield College, Oxford. Trabaja en las áreas de estratificación social, macrosociología, y recientemente consumo cultural.

John Goldthorpe ha contribuido a la comprensión de la movilidad social. Su trabajo en clase social lleva al fuertemente establecido Esquema de clases de Goldthorpe, una de las aproximaciones estándar para clasificar las clases en sociología. El esquema de clases de Goldthorpe está compuesto por once clases, agrupadas en tres clusters principales—la clase de servicios, la clase media y la clase trabajadora.

Goldthorpe es también muy conocido por su trabajo en la tesis de aburguesamiento que disipó en 1963; o sus contribuciones a la teoría de la elección racional. Fue elegido miembro de la Academia Británica en 1984. Fue estudiante de Norbert Elias.
