Sylvia Syms

Sylvia Syms OBE (nacida el 6 de enero de 1934) es una actriz británica. Probablemente es más conocida por sus personajes en las películas The Tamarind Seed, Ice Cold in Alex, No Trees in the Street y Woman in a Dressing Gown. Es recordada especialmente por su trabajo fílmico en los años cincuenta y sesenta, pero sigue trabajando en teatro y filmando para cine y televisión. Es una de las protagonistas de la película (en postproducción) Is There Anybody There?, junto con Michael Caine y Anne-Marie Duff.

Vida personal

Syms nació en Londres (Inglaterra), hija de Daisy (Hale) y Edwin Syms, una sindicalista del comercio y un sirviente civil.[1] Se educó en la RADA (Academia Real de Arte Dramático), en cuyo consejo trabajó.

Su hija Beatie Edney también es actriz.

Carrera

Comenzó como una joven estrella de cine. In her second film My Teenage Daughter (1954), hizo el papel de la problemática hija de Anna Neagle. Para el año 1960 había trabajado con Flora Robson, Orson Welles, Stanley Holloway, Lilli Palmer y William Holden.

En 1958 hizo la película Ice-Cold in Alex, que coprotagonizó junto con John Mills, Anthony Quayle y Harry Andrews. Esta película se ha convertido en una película de culto, porque un extracto de ella se usó para un comercial de cerveza. Es una entretenida historia acerca de cuatro soldados del ejército británico tratando de salir de territorio enemigo. Una escena de amor entre Mills y Syms tuvo que cortarse porque resultó demasiado fuerte.
