Opencast es un proyecto de ámbito internacional desarrollado por instituciones de educación superior que tiene por objetivo la creación y mantenimiento de software para la grabación de clases magistrales y su posterior procesado.

Comunidad Opencast

La Comunidad Opencast fue iniciada por UC Berkeley en 2007 con el fin de agrupar a Instituciones académicas, empresas y personas individuales interesados en la producción, gestión y distribución de contenidos de audio y video académico. Más información puede encontrarse en la Web de lesta comunidad o en la lista de email. Los Objetivos de la comunidad están descritos en la declaración de "misión". Actualmente el proyecto más destacado nacido de esta comunidad es el proyecto Opencast-Matterhorn

Componentes destacados

Dentro del proyecto el sistema libre destaca la creación de Matterhorn, una solución integral para e-learning. Y también la creación de un portal web para la publicación de contenidos sin ánimo de lucro.[1]

Participantes

Más de 50 universidades y organizaciones (principalmente de Norteamérica y Europa) participan en el proyecto. Opencast recibió una donación de 1,3 millones de dólares estadounidenses de la Hewlett Foundation y la Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.[2]
