The Dark Colours Since 1685 es un grupo de Garage formado en Madrid a mediados del año 2007 con influencias de la psicodelia y el progresivo de los 60 y 70.

Comienzos

En un principio eran sólo cuatro: Nico al bajo, Rodrigo a la guitarra, David a la batería y Rafa a la voz y guitarra. Tras unos meses, el hermano de Nico, Xavi, se incorporó al grupo a la batería, dejando así a Rafa únicamente a la voz y a David como guitarra solista.

Primera Maqueta

Editaron su primera maqueta auto-producida en los estudios de Alberto Moris (guitarrista de Vice & Vanity y Suzio13, entre otros), de la cual surgieron sus cuatro primeras grabaciones: Dead Flowers & Misery, Stuck In Jail, Up & Down y Midnight Train. En esos temas se notaba la influencia del R&B británico de mediados de los 60, con los Pretty Things, Downliners Sect o los primeros Rolling Stones como principal fuente de influencias.

Segunda Maqueta

Tras tocar por numerosas salas teloneando a grupos como Os Haxixins, grabaron su segunda maqueta en los estudios de Astray (cantante de los espirituosos, y técnico de sonido de la sala Gruta 77). Esta maqueta fue producida por Ignacio Garbayo, cantante y guitarrista de Zodiacs, el cual no dudó en producirlos tras verlos en directo. Se grabaron los siguientes temas: Manner Of Time y I’ve Got My Eyes On You. Se sigue notando su influencia del R&B británico, pero con una evolución mucho más meditada, y un sonido más oscuro y crudo.

Cambio de formación y Evolución

Continuaron tocando principalmente por Madrid, teloneando a grupos de mas renombre como The Jackets, Fumestones, Wau Y Los Arrrgh, etc. Pero tras un periodo de altibajos, se decide cambiar a una actitud mucho más profesional, abandonando David por no poder compaginarlo con sus compromisos en otros grupos. Es sustituido por Abel, la principal alternativa: Un joven amigo del grupo y "road-manager" no oficial, al que ya se vio tocando con ellos en algún concierto al que David no pudo asistir. Con la incorporación de éste, el grupo ha dejado un poco de lado sus sonidos R&B creando su propio sonido: un Garage Progresivo muy oscuro con tintes psicodélicos y composiciones mas elaboradas.
