Institute for Social Ecology

Institute for Social Ecology, en español Instituto para la Ecología Social, es una institución educativa en los Estados Unidos que ofrece cursos relacionados a la ecología social, una corriente antiautoritaria de la ecología relacionada muy de cerca con el anarquismo. Fue fundada en 1974 por Murray Bookchin y Daniel Chodorkoff.

Hasta el 2005 el Instituto ofrecía programas de verano, un programa de título B.A. (bachiller en artes) de un año, talleres y series de lectura dentro de su campus. Los cursos específicos incluían Diseño Sustentable, Construcción y Uso de Tierras, Medios, Activismo & Cambio Social y Rehaciendo Sociedad. Más de 3000 estudiantes se inscribieron hasta esa fecha. El campus que estaba localizado en Plainfield, Vermont también auspiciaba eventos relacionados a la ecología social, incluyendo muestras de arte y conferencias académicas, el campus fue vendido recientmente mientras el Instituto prepara nuevos proyectos en coordinación con otras instituciones educativas.

El Instituto para la Ecología social continúa siendo partícipe del activismo ambiental y antiautoritario y desde 2004 hasta la actualidad, ofrece un masterado en Programas de Arte en conjunto con el Prescott College en Arizona. Tiene en proceso el desarrollo de cuatros proyectos principales, sobre biotecnologías, gestión comunitaria de alimentos, etc., publica el periódico Harbinger, A Journal of Social Ecology.

En otros lugares de mundo ha habido quienes también han intentado crear y desarrollar institutos como este, así mismo relacionados con la ecología social, por el ejemplo el CLAES en Uruguay, entre otros.
