Japan Tobacco Inc. (日本たばこ産業株式会社 Nihon Tabako Sangyō Kabushiki-gaisha, JT) es un compañía manufacturera de cigarrillos. Forma parte del índice Nikkei 225. y es la tercera compañía del sector a nivel mundial.

Historia

La compañía tiene sus orígenes en 1898. Se convirtió en sociedad anónima en 1949 como Japan Tobacco and Salt Public Corporation, Japan Tobacco fue un monopolio estatal hasta 1985, cuando se convirtió en una compañía pública. Dos tercios estaban en posesión del Ministerio de Finanzas japonés hasta junio de 2004, actualmente el porcentaje del gobierno japonés es de un 50%.
