Un limerick es un tipo de poema humorístico con una métrica específica, originalmente desarrollado en lengua inglesa, aunque no es exclusivo a ella.

Requiere una organización estricta de 5 líneas, la primera, segunda y quinta de tres pies (normalmente versos endecasílabos) y la tercera y cuarta de dos pies (versos pentasílabos o hexasílabos). El esquema normalmente utilizado para las rimas en los limericks es "A-A-B-B-A". El ritmo que sigue es 3-3-2-2-3, pues cada verso contiene esos determinados golpes de voz.

Podría haberse desarrollado en Irlanda. No obstante, el género fue popularizado en Inglaterra por Edward Lear durante el siglo XIX.
