Dícese de un proyecto, actividad u objetivo que se realiza o persigue por una motivación personal sin que exista una necesidad popular o generalizada.

Proyecto, actividad u objetivo que se lleva a cabo con especial cuidado y amor, aunque en principio no parezca especialmente práctico llevarlo a cabo y la opinión popular discrepe de su utilidad.

Tu proyecto favorito (en ese momento) al que le dedicas toda la atención que para ti se merece.

Las razones que llevan a la persona al desarrollo de este proyecto u objetivo no son monetarias, ni la búsqueda de una recompensa inmediata ni material. Normalmente este tipo de proyectos u objetivos son motivo de impulsos artísticos y creativos.

El prefijo "pet" en inglés significa mascota y también es el verbo acariciar.

Software

Dícese de los proyectos de software que nacen por la pura necesidad impulsiva del programador como ser creador, y no del programador como mercader de servicios.
