René François Armand (Sully) Prudhomme (París, Francia, 16 de marzo de 1839 - Châtenay-Malabry, Francia, 6 de septiembre de 1907) fue un poeta y ensayista francés, ganador del primer Premio Nobel de Literatura en 1901.

Biografía

Prudhomme originalmente estudió para ingeniero, pero cambió a la Filosofía y posteriormente se consagró a la poesía. Al escribir esta última declaró que su intención era crear una lírica científica e impersonal para los tiempos modernos: canta las emociones y los sentimientos, pero sin personalizarlos jamás. Desbordaba arte y pesimismo y compuso estructuras de grandes pretensiones, aunque un poco frías, como en las Stances et Poèmes, las Épreuves, las Solitudes ("Soledades", 1869), La vie intérieure, las Vaines tendresses o La felicidad (1888). Obtuvo el premio Nobel de literatura en 1901.

Sully Prudhomme ocupó el sillón 24 de la Academia Francesa, en el que se han sentado entre otros el también escritor y ensayista Jean de la Fontaine y el matemático y físico Henri Poincaré.
