Rites of Spring, fue una banda de post-hardcore de Washington, D.C., en 1986, conocidos por sus conciertos violentos[cita requerida]. Dicha banda aumenta la popularidad local del hardcore punk.[cita requerida] Líricamente, impulsaron al hardcore hacia el emocore[cita requerida], el cual tendría contenido sensible y profundo; popularmente es conocida como la primer banda emo[cita requerida].

Realizó solo 15 conciertos[cita requerida]. El vocalista Guy Picciotto y el baterista Brendan Canty tocaron la influyente banda post-hardcore[cita requerida], Fugazi, una vez terminado el período de Rites of Spring.
