Arlen Siu

Arlen Siu Bermúdez (mejor conocida como Arlen Siu) fue nicaraguense de ascendencia China, una de las más recordadas martires de la revolución sandinista. Nació en Jinotepe, Nicaragua, en 1957. Su padre era chino y su madre nicaragüense. Asesinada el 1 de agosto de 1975 en El Sauce, Nicaragua. [1]

Vida temprana

Arlen Siu nació y creció en Jinotepe, Nicaragua. Su padre, Armando Siu Lau, nació en Guangdong, China y emigró a Nicaragua a finales de la década de 1940 después de pertenecer al Ejército Comunista Revolucionario,[2] después se casó con una mujer nicaraguense. Arlen asistió a La Escuela Normal de Señoritas ubicada en Jinotepe.

Revolución Sandinista

Arlen Siu tenía 18 años cuando se unió a los Sandinistas,[2] y probó ser una de las más fieles seguidoras de la causa. Ella era miembro del Movimientos Cristiano y ya había adquirido un nivel de celebridad nacional como una talentosa compositora, cantante, y guitarrista para antes de unirse al movimiento. Fue asesinada en agosto de 1975 cuando junto a otros sandinistas fue atacado el campamento donde se desarrollaba una Escuela de Entrenamiento. en El Sauce, Nicaragua, por soldados de la Guardia Nacional de Anastasio Somoza Debayle. Ella tenía 20 años de edad.

Su trabajo artístico y ensayos críticos sobre el Marxismo y el Feminismo sirvieron de inspiración tanto como al movimiento sandinista como al de Movimiento de Mujeres Nicaraguenses.[2]
