The Day I Tried to Live es la última canción editada como single dentro del disco Superunknown de Soundgarden. Fue editado como single en 1994 por el sello A&M.

La letra de la canción habla aparentemente de locura y enfermedades mentales. Esto viene confirmado por el vídeo, dirigido por Matt Mahurin, en el que Cornell aparece vestido como si fuese un paciente de hospital flotando alrededor de la habitación confuso.
