The X Effect es un reality show que comenzó a transmitirse por MTV en marzo de 2007. El concepto es que el par de exes (un ex-novio y ex-novia) tienen que pasar un fin de semana en un hotel, tiempo durante el cual se dan diversas actividades románticas, mientras que los otros (novio o novia actuales) espian a sus novios sin que ellos se dean cuenta. Al final del fin de semana, la exes debe elegir entre sus antiguos o nuevos novios.

Formato

En cada episodio, un ex-novio y una ex-novia, llegan juntos con sus novios actuales a pasar un fin de semana en un hotel juntos. Sin embargo, los ex-novios llegan a estar separados de sus novios actuales y se ven obligados a pasar tiempo con sus exes en un ambiente romántico.

En la segunda noche, los ex-novios son puestos en una suite con una cama individual. Ellos realison actividades durante el fin de semana.

Los actuales novios, que supuestamente han ido a casa, van a espiar con diferentes utilizaciones de diversas tecnologías exes (micrófonos ocultos, sensores al tacto, mapas y contadores de nombres) para ver lo que están haciendo. Durante este tiempo no tienen forma de comunicarse con sus novios actuales.

Al final, cada uno de los exes deben elegir si quieren continuar la relación con sus novios actuales o volver con sus ex. Dependiendo de lo que han visto, los actuales novios podrán decidir si continuan o no continuan su relación, independientemente de la opción elegida.

Producción

Cada episodio tiene lugar en un complejo hotelero de ficción. La primera temporada fue filmada en el Canfield-Moreno Estate en Silver Lake, bajo el nombre de "Cañón Vista Resort." Se trata de un estudio de grabación, no el funcionamiento del hotel. La segunda temporada del espectáculo, que comenzó a transmitirse en enero de 2008, se filma en Miami Beach. Tiene lugar en la "Casa Bella", aunque ningún hotel de este nombre opera en Miami Beach.
