Touchdown
El quarterback de los Texas Longhorns, Vince Young (arriba, al centro de la foto, actual jugador de los Tennessee Titans), acarrea para un touchdown contra Colorado en el partido de campeonato de la Big 12 Conference en el fútbol americano. La línea vertical amarilla es parte del goalpost.

Un touchdown es la forma básica de anotación en el fútbol americano y canadiense, donde el jugador que acarrea el balón cruza el plano de la zona de anotación; o cuando un receptor captura el pase en la zona de anotación. Un touchdown otorga 6 puntos y la oportunidad de un punto extra o una conversión de dos puntos.

El acarreo para touchdown más largo de la historia ocurrió el 4 de noviembre de 2007. Los San Diego Chargers visitaban a los Minnesota Vikings. El pateador Ryan Longwell intentó un gol de campo de 58 yardas, el cual fue corto y capturado por el CB/PR/KR Antonio Cromartie's , 9 yardas dentro de la zona de anotación. Después corrió para anotar un touchdown, de 109,88 yardas, sólo 1 yarda más largo que el récord anterior.

Un touchdown es similar al ensayo que se realiza en el rugby, con la diferencia que en el ensayo, el balón debe tocar el terreno, lo cual fue abolido en el fútbol americano. El término touchdown se usa también en rugby para hablar del acto físico de cruzar con el balón sobre el terreno de la línea de gol.
