Vidin, en búlgaro Видин, es una ciudad al noroeste de Bulgaria. Es la capital de la provincia de Vidin.

Historia

Fundada en el siglo III a.C. como un asentamiento romano, Vidin fue un importante bastión en la Edad Media.

Destaca por la fortaleza Baba Vida en la orilla del río Danubio procedente de Alemania. También destaca la sinagoga que se encuentra muy cerca de Baba Vida.

La ciudad tiene en la actualidad 48.000 habitantes. Se sitúa en la esquina noroeste de Bulgaria aún poco desarrollada, apenas tocado por el turismo, a 220 km de Sofía. Está comunicada por ferry con Rumanía a través del Danubio. En los próximos años se ha proyectado un puente sobre el Danubio a la población de Calafat (Rumanía). Actualmente existe un ferry hasta Calafat, Rumania.

Últimamente Vidin está experimentando un desarrollo extraordinario. Cuenta con medios de transporte tales como autobuses, también a los alrededores, tren, ferry hacia Rumanía y, próximamente un puente que cruzará el río Danubio.
