Augustine Tolton

Augustine Tolton (* Missouri, 1 de abril de 1854 - + Chicago, 9 de julio de 1897), sacerdote católico estadounidense.

Sacerdote estadounidense de origen negro, hijo de esclavos, se mudó con su familia a Quincy, donde trabajó como talabartero.

Quiso ser seminarista, pero los sacerdotes blancos estadounidense le ignoraron y lo menospreciaron por su raza, así que viajó a Roma, y allí fue ordenado sacerdote en 1866.

Su renombre como predicador fue blanco de críticas negativas de parte de los sacerdotes católicos blancos tanto como de los pastores evangélicos negros, y en 1889, se le asignó a la diocesis de Chicago, donde encontró la ayuda de Santa Katherine Drexel (1858-1955), religiosa estadounidense, de quien seria el Padre Tolton su confesór.
