Witchcraft Today

"Witchcraft Today" , traducido al castellano "Brujería Hoy", es un libro de no-ficción escrito por Gerald Brosseau Gardner. Publicado en 1954, Witchcraft Today es uno de los primeros libros sobre la Wicca, detalla la práctica de la brujería por Gardner en la Inglaterra de los años '50.

Historia

paso a mediados del siglo veintiuno que gran parte de la percepción negativa hacia la brujería cambió con la aparición pública de la Wicca, en gran parte gracias a las publicaciones de Gerald Gardner una vez las últimas leyes que condenaban esta religión pagana fueron abolidas. Esta desinformación sobre la brujería fue creada por las persecuciones a manos del cristianismo durante la larga y sangrienta época de la Inquisición.

En 1954, publicó witchcraft today ante su temor de que el Arte de la brujería se perdiera por haber estado oculta por tantos siglos. Fue este libro el que le abrió el camino a la moderna Wicca, de ahí su gran importancia que va más allá de su contenido.

Para sorpresa del mismo Gardner durante esa época salieron a la luz muchos grupos o coventículos de practicantes de la brujería esparcidos por Europa. En Witchcraft Today, Gardner afirma que las teorías de la reconocida antropóloga Margaret Murray eran correctas, estas teorías proponen que la brujería moderna es el remanente de una religión pagana europea totalmente organizada previo a las persecuciones. De esta forma nace la llamada Wicca gardneriana.
