100 Miles from Memphis es el séptimo álbum de estudio por la cantante americana Sheryl Crow. El álbum fue escrito y producido por Crow, Doyle Bramhall II y Justin Stanley y aparecen los músicos Tommy Sims y Chris Bruce.[2] En éste álbum pone a un lado el pasado country y pop rock a favor de un estilo Memphis, soul. Aunque en dominio de instrumentos están el bajo, piano y la guitarra, Crow se concentra en cantar en todo el álbum, que aparecen algunos covers, incluyendo "Sideways"[3] de Citizen Cope y "I Want You Back"[4] de The Jackson 5.

Rendimiento comercial

En Estados Unidos, 100 Miles from Memphis, fue el segundo debut más alto en Billboard 200. El álbum que comenzó en el número tres con ventas de 55,000 copias es el octavo álbum top 10 de la cantante.[5] En su segunda semana, el álbum cayó al número 8, con ventas de 24,000 copias.[6] En la tercer semana, el álbum cayó al número 16.[7] En la cuarta semana, el álbum cayó al número 23.[8] En su quinta semana, el álbum cayó al número 33.[9] En su sexta semana, cayó al número 35.[10] Pero en su séptima semana, dió una gran caída en el número 65.[11]

En Canadá, el álbum vendió 4,6000 copias en su primer semana, debutando en el número dos en Canadian Albums Chart,[12] perdiendo con Eminem con Recovery, que vendió 28,000 copias. Hasta la fecha, el álbum ha vendido 150,000 copias en Estados Unidos.

Críticas

100 Miles from Memphis ha recibido críticas positivas de los críticos. Knoxville.com llamó al álbum "musicalmente impresionante" y "el más ambicioso lanzamiento hasta ahora", aunque no estuvo impresionado con su voz, notando una desconección con el sonido. Le dieron al álbum 3.5 estrellas de 5.[13]

BBC también le dió a 100 Miles una crítica positiva, llamándolo "una mezcla de soul blanco, rock y reggae" y alabando a la asociación entre Crow y el productor Doyle Bramhall II. El álbum es considerado nostálgico para Sheryl, por un momento en que el soul tiene un mensaje optimismo. El entusiasmo de Crow es notado en el disco.[14]

La revista Billboard, dijo, "100 Miles es un camino que Crow fue muy inteligente en tomar", alabando la celebración de ánimo y un ambiente alegre del primer sencillo, "Summer Day", como también "Peaceful Feeling" y la primer canción "Our Love is Fading". La arrogancia de Keith Richards es notable en "Eye to Eye".[15]

La revista Mojo Magazine encontró a Crow un estado de paz en la mente, después de adoptar dos hijos, Wyatt Steve y el recién nacido Levi James. A los 48, ella finalmente "regresa a sus raíces."
