Below the line

Below the line (traducido literalmente al castellano significa debajo de la línea) más conocido por su acrónimo BTL, es una técnica de marketing consistente en el empleo de formas de comunicación no masivas dirigidas a segmentos específicos La promoción de productos o servicios se lleva a cabo mediante acciones se caracterizan por el empleo de altas dosis de creatividad, sorpresa y sentido de oportunidad, creándose novedosos canales para comunicar mensajes publicitarios.

Emplea medios tales como el merchandising, eventos, mecenazgo, medios de difusión no convencionales, promociones y marketing directo, entre otros.

Suele ser el complemento de campañas en medios de comunicación tradicionales, denominadas sobre la línea (traducción literal de above the line, conocido por sus siglas ATL).

En los modelos de comunicación personal, el feedback o retroalimentación es instantáneo; en cambio con la comunicación masiva, ésta no es tan inmediata; los medios BTL no solo agilizan la respuesta, sino que hacen más mensurable la efectividad de la publicidad.

Embrace the line: esta denominación, popularizada por Martín Bueno y Joe Wiseman en la agencia de Publicidad JWT en NYC, hace referencia a las acciones de marketing que llevan una parte interactiva y que abrazan al ATL y BTL.

BTL es también conocido como "marketing de guerrilla" en algunos países latinoamericanos.
