Suleiman Pasha (también conocido como Süleyman Paşa o Soliman Al Fransawi Pasha) nació en Fontaines-Saint-Martin, cerca de Lyon (Francia) en 1788 como Joseph Anthelme Sêve y falleció en El Cairo el 12 de marzo de 1860. No debe ser cofundido con Suleiman Pasha, un oficial turco de la Guerra Ruso-Turca que vivió en el mismo siglo.

Fue oficial de la Grande Armée de Napoleón, se convirtió al Islam y fue reclutado por el ejército egipcio para reformarlo bajo patrones europeos. Llegó a generalísimo del ejército egipcio.
