Windows Preinstallation Environment, abreviado, Windows PE, es un sistema operativo Win32 básico con servicios limitados desarrollado bajo el kernel de Windows Vista. Es usado para implementar instalaciones de Windows desde un servidor de Entorno de Ejecución de inicio previo (PXE) y cargar e inicializar el proceso de setup de Windows.
Windows PE no ha sido diseñado para ser el sistema operativo primario en una computadora, si para ser utilizado como un entorno de preinstalación. En conjunto con los Servicios de Implementación de Windows (WDS), la evolución de RIS, es útil para adoptar e implementar sistemas operativos Windows rápidamente.
