Digital Universe es un proyecto de enciclopedia online de contenido libremente accesible y estructurada según un sistema de sitios webs no comerciales denominados portales y con un sistema de clasificación y taxonomía que haga fácilmente navegable sus contenidos.

Entre los diferentes portales se encuentra un proyecto de enciclopedia online operativo a partir de enero del 2006 y liderado en parte por Larry Sanger, uno de los promotores iniciales de enciclopedias online como Nupedia y Wikipedia. Sanger afirma que los contenidos de Digital Universe serán más confiables que los de Wikipedia dado que los artículos serán escritos por autores expertos. El proyecto de Digital Universe contendrá artículos escritos por el público y por expertos distinguiéndose ambos tipos de artículos en todos los casos.
