Edgar Wilson "Bill" Nye (1850 – 1896) fue un distinguido periodista norteamericano, que más tarde se convertiría ne un conocido humorista. El era además el fundador y editor de Laramie Boomerang.

Nye nació en Shirley, Maine, y adoptó el nombre de "Bill Nye" después de conocer un personaje en un famoso poema de Bret Harte.

El Boomerang fue fuendado mientras Nye era jefe de cartería. Este hecho le precipitó hacia la fama, ganando subcriptores en todos los estados y en países extranjeros.

Algunos de sus trabjaos incluyen: La Historia cómica de los Estados Unidos de Bill Nye, Bill Nye y el Boomerang, Historia de Inglaterra de Bill Nye, y El Libro Rojo de Bill Nye.

Más tarde en su carrera se asoció con James Whitcomb Riley con el que escribió dos libros. Además aparecieron juntos en un circuito de lectura?. Incluso viajo y lleyó con Luther Burbank.

Murió de meningitis. Un monumento le conmemora en Pierce County, Wisconsin, entre las ciudades de Prescott y River Falls. Un pequeñp monumento marca su lugar de nacimento en Shirley, Maine.
