Eudaimonia

Eudaimonía (Griego: εὐδαιμονία) o plenitud de ser es una palabra griega clásica traducida comúnmente como “felicidad”. Aristóteles lo entendió como ejercicio virtuoso de lo específicamente humano, es decir, la razón. El uso popular del término se refiere a un estado de la mente y alma, relacionado con la alegría o al placer.

Según Aristóteles, el fin o bien último que persigue el hombre es la eudaimonía o sea, felicidad, entendida como plenitud de ser. El problema viene dado entonces en determinar qué se entenderá por felicidad, y es aquí, que la Ética a Nicómaco hace mención a cuatro tipos de vida y su consiguiente forma de encontrar la felicidad. Según Aristóteles, el hombre alcanza la felicidad con riquezas; con honores y fama; otros creen obtenerla por placer.
