Agnodice

Agnódice fue una médica griega, natural de Atenas. Vivió durante el siglo IV a. C. Como la medicina estaba prohibida a las mujeres, se disfrazó de hombre para poder estudiarla y ejercerla.

Nacida de la alta sociedad ateniense, se disfrazó de hombre para seguir los cursos de medicina del célebre médico Herófilo. Superó brillantemente el examen y se hizo ginecóloga, pero sin revelar su identidad verdadera. Sus éxitos profesionales despertaron la envidia de los otros médicos que le acusaron de abusar de sus pacientes y fue llevada ante el Areópago, fue entonces cuando Agnódice tuvo que revelar su sexo, por lo que fue acusada de violar la ley, pero las mujeres de algunos de los principales ciudadanos de Atenas a las que había curado la defendieron y consiguieron que la ley fuese inválida.
