Garfield Sobers

Sir Garfield St Auburn Sobers (28 de julio de 1936, Barbados), conocido como Garry Sobers (aunque tempranamente prefirió que su nombre fuese escrito Gary), es un jugador de cricket retirado del equipo West Indies. Nació con dos dedos de más, uno en cada mano, los cuales fueron eliminados al nacer. Es destacado su desempeño en otros deportes como el golf, fútbol, baloncesto, tenis de mesa y dominó para Barbados.[1] Es considerado uno de los jugadores más excepcionales para este juego.

Sobers fue un verdadero polifacético, fue bateador y lanzador de pelotas, y también fue un destacado centro campista generalmente como defensor cerca del wicket. Sobers se desempeñó soberbiamente con la pelota, tomando 235 Test wickets en un promedio de 34,03. Pero tenía un talento excepcional como bateador también, que su promedio en Test cricket de 57,78 refleja. Marcó un entonces récord cantidad de carreras, unos 8032. Jugo su final partido Test en 1974 contra Inglaterra, en Trinidad.
