Gene Howard Golub (29 de febrero de 1932 - 16 de noviembre de 2007). Doctorado en Matemáticas en la Universidad de Illinois. Sus trabajos se basan en Análisis Numérico, Programa Matemático, e Informática Estadística. En sus últimos años trabajó en la Universidad de Stanford en el cómputo de la matriz que inventó. Su análisis de algoritmos para solucionar problemas numéricos se aplican en las operaciones científicas y estadísticas.

Desarrolló otros algoritmos para solucionar sistemas lineales con una estructura especial para calcular los valores propios de las secuencias de matrices y, a su vez, estima las funciones de esas mismas matrices. Además aportó una solución al empleo de polinomios Chebyshev. Esta solución consiste en que la matriz iteractiva de ecuaciones lineales comparadas son estimativas al método de sobrerelajación sucesiva. En 1993 lo nombraron miembro permanente de la Academia de Ciencias de los Estados Unidos.
