Alaa Abd El-Fatah علاء أحمد سيف الإسلام عبدالفتاح es un reconocido blogger egipto, desarrollador de software, y activista por la democracia. Se le conoce por haber fundado (junto con su esposa Manal) el blog "Manalaa". Se ha dedicado a desarrollar versiones en la lengua árabe de software y plataformas.

Su padre, Ahmad Seif, es un reconocido abogado y gerente del Centro Legal Hesham Mubarak, y su madre, Prof. Laila Suief, es una profesora de matemáticas en la Universidad de El Cairo y activista política.

Mayo de 2006, detención y grito de protesta

Al domingo, el 7 de mayo de 2006, El-Fatah fue detenido durante una manifestación pacífica en favor de un juez egipcio independiente. Su detención, y la de otros bloggers y activistas democráticas, provocó protestas alrededor del mundo. Se creó un nuevo blog "Liberen a Alaa" exigiendo así su liberación.

Junio de 2006

Alaa es liberado tras 45 días en prisión, el 20 de junio de 2006. Cita de su esposa tras la liberación de Alaa, en el diario inglés "The independent": "Ahora no hay marcha atrás.Definitivamente vamos a continuar con nuestras actividades"
