La Jewish Defense League o Liga de Defensa Judia (JDL) es una organización judía cuyo objetivo es proteger a los judios del antisemitismo.[1] Fue fundada por el Rabino Meir Kahane en Nueva York en 1968.[2] [1] Cuando se fundó, cientos de ortodoxos de Brooklyn se adherieron inmediamente a la organización. En 1972, la organización tenía más de 15,000 miembros. En su origen, la Jewish Defense League fue creada como grupo militante de protección y auto-défensa de los judios ortodoxos objeto de ataques de diversas bandas de la calle y para protestar contra las manifestaciones locales antisemitas. Esta considerada por el FBI como una organización extremista y violenta.
