Amati. Violín fabricado en 1558

Los Amati fueron una familia de fabricantes de violines italiana originaria de Cremona, que estuvo vigente entre los siglos XVI y XVII.

Andrea Amatti (15201578) estableció la forma del violín moderno. Sus dos hijos Antonio Amati (15501638) y Girolamo Amati (15611630), trabajaron juntos y fueron conocidos como Los Hermanos Amati.

El hijo de Girolamo, Nicolò Amati (15961684), quien siguió el trabajo de sus antepasados en Cremona, es considerado como el más eminente luthier de la familia. Entre sus más famosos discípulos se encuentran Andrea Guarneri y Antonio Stradivari; siendo Nicolò sustituido por su hijo Girolamo Amati (16491740).

El gran aporte de los Amati al desarrollo del violín, fue su adelanto sobre el superficial y plano ejemplar, el cual era capaz de producir una esplendorosa entonación de soprano, después mejorado por Stradivari.
