Lubny (Лубни en ucraniano) es una ciudad del Óblast de Poltava, en Ucrania. Es el centro administrativo del raión Lubenskiy. Contaba con una población de 52.600 en 1999.

Historia

Lubny es una de más antiguas ciudades de Ucrania. Fue fundada en 988 por el Knyaz Vladímir I de Kiev. Es mencionada por primera vez en crónicas de 1107. Al principio era una pequeña fortaleza de madera cerca del rio Sula. La fortaleza ha crecido rápido y entre el siglo XV - siglo XVI era propiedad de la poderosa familia Vishniovietski. En el 1596 Lubny fue el sitio de la última batalla contra los polacos, la de última batalla de Severin Nalivayko. En el siglo XVII era una de las ciudades más grandes. Tenia 2.646 habitantes en 1638. Entre 1648 - 1781 era el centro de estado mayor de los Cosacos.

Cuando se construyó el ferrocarril 1901, empezó a crecer la industria.

Durante de Segunda Guerra Mundial Lubny fue el centro de los Partisanos Soviéticos.

Lubny actual

Hoy Lubny es un centro industrial y cultural. Hay una fábrica de productos lácteos (hacen 45 variedades de helado), una fábrica de carne, una fábrica de artículos de harina, una fábrica farmacéutica, una fábrica de muebles, etc.

Hay 10 escuelas, escuelas técnicas, escuela medica y escuela musical.
