El Mau Rakau (cuyo significando es agarrar una arma), es un arte marcial tradicional de Māori que se convirtió antes de que las armas de fuego se hagan conocer en Nueva Zelandia. Es un sistema de lucha o combate que es complementado por Mau, el sistema consiste en el manejo de la arma y del combate de la mano a mano, es practicado como un rito ceremonial y religioso.

El Mau Rakau no se documenta muy bien y además se enseña tradicionalmente solamente a los muchachos. Se ha mencionado recientemente en algunas películas populares, lo cual incluye al jinete de la ballena.
