La "New Power Generation (NPG)" es un grupo formado por el cantante Prince tras los problemas que llevaron a la disolución de su anterior banda The Revolution. Su primer álbum fue Diamonds and Pearls, en 1991. Y su nombre proviene de una canción del anterior álbum Graffiti Bridge, aunque en el primer corte de Lovesexy ya aparecía la frase "Welcome to the New Power Generation" en 1988.

A partir de las disputas con Warner Bros, que le limitaba la comercialización de su producción artística, Prince comenzó a utilizar la NPG como sello para publicar material adicional (principalmente un material más alternativo dirigido a un público más selecto).

Su primer álbum fue Goldnigga publicado en 1993 al que siguió en 1995 Exodus y Newpower Soul en 1998. Un cuarto álbum denominado Peace nunca llegó a producirse, aunque Prince ha utilizado algunas de sus canciones en conciertos y ediciones limitadas de singles (principalmente en NPG Music Club).
