“The end.” es la primera pista del álbum The Black Parade de My Chemical Romance. La canción “Five years” de David Bowie sirvió como base para escribirla. La banda habla sobre la canción “The end.” en el principio de la exclusiva canción “My Chemical Romance welcomes you to the Black Parade” que está disponible en iTunes, en el álbum Welcome to the Black Parade - EP. Esta canción fue conocida por los fans como “Father” hasta una entrevista con iTunes. El nombre original de la canción fue “Intro” hasta cuando la cantaron por primera vez en el SxSW Festival donde decidieron llamarla “The end.”.

La historia del Paciente

En esta primera pista del álbum, el Paciente aún no es mencionado, más bien trata sobre My Chemical Romance como The Black Parade (sus álter egos), dándole la bienvenida al oyente sobre el trágico suceso que se está por revelar. The Black Parade le cuenta al oyente sobre deshacerse del maquillaje (“Wipe off that make-up”), aunque era sabido que era algo que la banda anteriormente usaba muy frecuentemente, ellos se están asegurando de que el oyente sabe que en este álbum ellos no son My Chemical Romance, sino que The Black Parade. La canción te hace sentir como si estuvieras a punto de salir en un viaje, y Ray Toro, guitarrista principal de MCR, cree que la canción fija el tono para el resto del álbum.
