USS Rhode Island

USS Rhode Island ha sido el nombre utilizado en total por cuatro buques de la Armada de los Estados Unidos en honor al estado de Rhode Island.

  • El primer vapor de ruedas con casco de madera, anteriormente llamado John P. King y Eagle, y renombrado posteriormente Charleston que participó en combate en la Guerra de Secesión, fue adquirido y dado de alta en 1861, fue dado de baja en 1864, y fue abandonado en 1885.
  • El segundo acorazado de clase 1906, navegó con la Gran Flota Blanca, y prestó servicios antisubmarinos durante la Primera Guerra Mundial. Fue dado de baja en 1923 según lo dispuesto en el Tratado naval de Washington.
  • El USS Henry M. Jackson, la clase Ohio se puso en grada con el nombre de Rhode Island, pero fue renombrado posteriormente antes de su botadura en honor al senador Henry M. Jackson tras su muerte.
  • El tercer USS Rhode Island es un submarino nuclear de clase Ohio dado de alta el 9 de julio de 1994.

Otros buques

  • SS Rhode Island fue un carguero con 6.096 toneladas de registro bruto, construido en Bath Maine en 1917. Este buque, fue renombrado en numerosas ocasiones, entre las que se encuentran los nombres SS Woonsocket, SS Makiki. Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, participó en convoyes a Reino Unido, y terminó su carrera en Panamá en 1952, y finalmente, fue desguazado en Japón en el año 1954.
