Bromelia pinguin, es una especie de planta de la familia de las bromeliáceas. Es originaria de México extendiéndose por toda la América tropical.[1]

Descripción

Con penca y hojas en rosetas, espinosas, y con vainas grandes, cubiertas de escamas color café oscuro. Las flores son de color rosado. Da un fruto comestible llamado caraguatá o chicuipo. Sirve también como planta ornamental y se utiliza, por sus hojas espinosas, para formar setos.

Su nombre proviene del tarasco o purhépecha tumbiriche, de tumbire, racimo. En México es común este nombre. En otros países, como Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador y Nicaragua se le conoce como piñuela.
