Color field

El Color field painting (en español, «Pintura de campo de color»[1] o «Pintura de campos de color»[2] ) es un estilo de pintura abstracta que emergió en Nueva York durante los años cuarenta y cincuenta del siglo XX. Estaba inspirado en el modernismo europeo y muy relacionado con el expresionismo abstracto, dado que muchos de sus más importantes cultivadores fueron pioneros de este movimiento. El Color field painting se caracteriza ante todo por grandes campos de color liso, homogéneo, dispuestos a lo largo de la tela, tanto de forma regular como irregular, creando así áreas ininterrumpidas de superficie y un plano liso de pintura. El movimiento enfatiza poco los detalles, la pincelada y el movimiento, y presta sobre todo su atención a la consecución de una consistencia total de la forma y el proceso.

Desde finales de los años cincuenta y a lo largo de los sesenta, los pintores color field emergieron en Gran Bretaña, Canadá, y en Washington y la costa oeste de los Estados Unidos, utilizando formatos de rayas, blancos, patrones geométricos simples y referencias a la imaginería paisajística y a la naturaleza.[3]
