Calle principal que da nombre a toda una zona comercial en Londres, dedicada a la moda, complementos y un modo de vida (lifestyle) moderno. Ubicada en el área de 'Carnaby', en el distrito Soho, cerca de las calles Oxford Street y Regent Street, su nombre proviene de Karnaby House, un gran edificio erigido hacia el este de la zona de referencia, alrededor de 1683. Se desconoce el origen de tal denominación. La calle probablemente se constituyó como tal hacia 1685-1686 y ya en 1690 estaba casi totalmente poblado por pequeñas casas.

Carnaby Street se hizo muy popular en la década de los 60, por los seguidores del estilo Mod (Modernistas) y de grupos y bandas musicales tales como Rolling Stone, Small Faces y The Beatles, que visitaban habitualmente la zona para hacer sus compras o simplemente pasearse por su entorno. Muy pronto, boutiques de moda alternativa y diseñadores como Mary Quant y "Lord John" trasladaron sus comercios y talleres a esta calle, también salpicada de bares de música "undergroud" como el "Roaring Twenties".
