Devin Townsend (nacido el 5 de mayo de 1972 en New Westminster, Canadá) es un multi-instrumentalista, vocalista y productor canadiense de metal progresivo con influencias del free jazz, blues, la música industrial y la música clásica. Es el fundador de la banda de metal extremo Strapping Young Lad y ha publicado multitud de álbumes bajo los nombres de Devin Townsend, Ocean Machine y The Devin Townsend Band.

En 2007 Townsend disolvió Strapping Young Lad y The Devin Towsend Band con el objetivo de pasar más tiempo con su familia y menos tiempo de gira. Desde entonces, el artista canadiense ha producido varios álbumes para otros grupos mientras componía material propio en su estudio casero. Devin tiene pensado publicar cuatro álbumes a lo largo de 2009 conformando una tetralogía llamada The Devin Townsend Project. Cada uno de estos cuatro álbumes se encuadrará en un estilo diferente, desde el rock progresivo ambiental hasta el metal extremo. El primero de estos cuatro discos, Ki, salió a la venta en mayo de 2009.
