Las montañas Drakensburg tienen un altura de hasta 3000 msnm, se ubican en Sudáfrica y albergan a la tribu Zulú. El idioma nativo las denomina como Ukhahlamba.

Es una frontera natural entre Sudáfrica y Lessoto, su clima es frío en la época invernal se cubren de nieve. El Drakensburg Norte conduce el río Tugela, el cual desemboca en una meseta, dando paso a la Cascada de Tugela, la segunda más alta del mundo, lo cual lo convierte en un destino natural de turismo.

En su historia, se encuentran dos hechos relevantes. Por un lado, se han encontrado diversas pinturas que datan de 800 años de antigüedad, lo cual implica que siempre ha sido el destino de turistas y pintores que enamorados por el paraje, visitan el lugar; por otro lado, las montañas fueron exploradas por Robert Baden-Powell a finales del siglo XIX, en el marco de las guerras en África del Imperio Británico.
