La Foundation for Economic Education (FEE), fue el primer tanque de pensamiento moderno establecido en los Estados Unidos específicamente "para estudiar y hacer avanzar la filosofía de libertad". La FEE promueve, investiga y promulga las ideas de mercado libre, liberales clásicas, y liberales libertarias.

Continúa haciéndolo a través de su revista mensual, The Freeman, así como a través de folletos, conferencias, y el patrocinio académico. También publica la reimpresión de textos clásicos liberales libertarios, y organiza seminarios para figuras públicas estadounidenses.

Historia

FEE fue fundada en 1946 por Leonard Read, gerente general de la Cámara de Comercio de Los Ángeles, para quien "la filosofía de la libre empresa se había convertido en casi una religión". El William Volker Fund fue fundamental para subvencionar la creación de FEE. Los funcionarios iniciales incluyeron a Read como presidente, Henry Hazlitt como vicepresidente, presidente, y B.F. Goodrich y David Goodrich como directores.

Muchos libertarios han acreditado el esfuerzo de Read como las bases para el movimiento libertario de posguerra. Por ejemplo, Friedrich Hayek aparentemente fue inspirado en parte por la FEE, cuando formó la Sociedad Mont Pelerin en 1947.

Han colaborado con FEE varios economistas o filósofos: Ludwig von Mises, Friedrich Hayek, Henry Hazlitt, Milton Friedman, James Buchanan, Vernon L. Smith, Israel Kirzner, George Stigler, Frank Chodorov, etc.
