La Tarjeta de Residencia Permanente en Estados Unidos, conocida popularmente como Green Card es un documento de identidad para residentes permanentes en los Estados Unidos que no posean la nacionalidad estadounidense. Los poseedores de esta tarjeta tienen derecho a residir y trabajar en el país. No obstante, deben mantener el status de residente en Estados Unidos aunque puede ser retirada si se demuestra que han cometido unos delitos determinados. El nombre Green Card (en español: Tarjeta verde) se debe al color de un documento similar introducido a finales de la Segunda Guerra Mundial [1]. En 1977 se adoptó el documento actual, habiendo sido impreso en varios colores. En 2006 el color de la tarjeta tornaba entre el blanco y el amarillo con una franja verde en fondo. En la tarjeta se incluye el nombre del titular y una fotografía, así como información personal.

Los portadores de la tarjeta deben llevarla consigo en todo momento y mostrarla a los agentes de inmigración si se les solicita. Pese a que a los extranjeros con residencia permanente en el país se les exige portar el documento, a los nacionales estadounidenses no se les exige llevar documentación alguna.
