Harivaṃśa

El Harivamsha (también escrito Harivamsa; sánscrito: harivaṃśa हरिवंश "el linaje de Hari (Vishnú)") es una importante obra de la literatura en sánscrito que contiene 16.375 shloka (versos).

El texto es complejo y contiene partes que pueden remontarse a los siglos I y II EC. La mayor parte del texto deriva de dos tradiciones: la pañcalakṣaṇa, que son las cinco marcas del corpus de los Purana, -una de las cuales es la genealogía (vaṃśa)- y diferentes historias sobre Krishna como pastor. La última parte presenta la fuente más antigua de los primeros años de la vida de Krishna y su vida con las pastorcillas gopis presentándolo como un héroe tribal.
