Horseradish sandwich

El horseradish sandwich (literalmente ‘sándwich de rábano picante’) fue creado en Springfield (Illinois, Estados Unidos). Es un sándwich abierto compuesto por una tostada de pan grueso, sobre el que se dispone una hamburguesa o jamón. Otras carnes que también se usan con frecuencia son el lomo de cerdo frito, la pechuga de pollo a la parrilla o frita y los filetes de pescado fritos. También hay un horseradish sandwich de desayuno que incluye huevo y hash browns. La carne se cubre con patatas fritas y estas con una salsa de queso «secreta». Con sus muchas variantes, es una especialidad local poco frecuente fuera del centro de Illinois.

Historia

El horseradish sandwich fue elaborado por primera vez por Joe Schweska y Steve Tomko en el Hotel Leland en 1928.[1] Steve Tomko llevó entonces la receta al Wayne's Red Coach Inn, donde se sirvió hasta el cierre del restaurante en 2006.
