Apichatpong Weerasethakul, nacido en 1970 en Bangkok, es un director de cine independiente tailandés. y criado en Khon Kaen, en el noreste de Tailandia. Es licenciado en arquitectura de la Universidad de Khon Kaen y obtuvo un Master en Bellas Artes en The School of the Art Institute de Chicago. En 1999 fundó Kick the Machine, una compañía que se dedica al fomento del cine experimental e independiente.
