The Dark es el segundo álbum de larga duración de la banda Metal Church. También fue el último álbum en presentar la formación Wayne/Vanderhoof/Arrington/Wells/Erickson hasta el álbum de 1999 Masterpeace. El álbum habla sobre temas oscuros, tales como asesinatos, muerte, peleas y rituales. Una canción del álbum, Watch the Children Pray, se convirtió en el primer video de la banda. Este álbum es uno de sus más criticados y comercialmente exitosos álbumes hasta la fecha.
