The Yes Album

Time and a Word es el segundo álbum de la banda de rock progresivo Yes, lanzado a mediados de 1970 en el Reino Unido y en noviembre del mismo año en Estados Unidos. Este fue el último disco de Yes realizado por la alineación original, ya que Peter Banks fue despedido después de su lanzamiento.

La ambiciosa decisión de utilizar arreglos orquestales en la mayoría de las canciones del álbum disminuyó el rol de Banks como guitarrista. Las tensiones dentro del grupo aumentaron, hasta que inmediatamente después de terminar la grabación del álbum a principios de 1970, se le pidió a Banks que abandonara el grupo. Steve Howe se uniría a la banda en el mes de marzo.

El uso de arreglos de cuerdas en Time and a Word pareció excesivo a algunos críticos. Aunque en su momento el álbum tuvo un recibimiento un tanto tibio (alcanzando el sitio 45, debut de Yes en las listas de popularidad del Reino Unido), se le tiende a recordar de forma más favorable en la actualidad.

Con la llegada de Steve Howe, la banda comenzaría a componer en el verano de 1970 la música para The Yes Album, que en la primavera del año siguiente representaría el primer verdadero éxito del grupo. Por esto Time and a Word representa el fin de la etapa formativa de Yes.
