Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (Titila, titila estrellita) es una de las canciones infantiles más populares en Estados Unidos. Combina la tonada de la melodía francesa de 1761 Ah! vous dirai-je, Maman con un poema inglés, The Star, (La estrella) por Jane Taylor.[1] [2] El poema, fue publicado por primera vez en 1806 en Rhymes for nursery (Rimas para guardería), una colección de poemas de Taylor y su hermana Ann.

La rima original dice así:

Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are!
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder where you are!
wish I may wish I might,
make this dream come true tonight

La repetición de las 2 primeras líneas al final no es del poema original, pero permite ajustar las palabras a la melodía.

Conceptos erróneos

Un concepto erróneo común, reforzado por su aparición como una respuesta correcta en la edición original de Trivial Pursuit, es que la música fue escrita por Mozart. Mozart no compuso la melodía francesa original, pero escribió 12 variaciones de ella. Estas variaciones están listadas como K.265 (más tarde K.300e). Otro concepto erróneo es que todas las versiones de la canción se pueden calificar como rimas de guardería, al contrario, el texto de la versión original en francés, no estaba pensado para los oídos de los niños.

Existen también versiones de la melodía original en muchos otros idiomas, incluso en inglés la comparte con la Canción del alfabeto desde 1834 así, como la canción Baa, Baa, Black Sheep.
