Carrera en cine
Nacido en Nelson, Georgia, USA. Su primer película fue en el clásico de 1953, De Aquí a la Eternidad con Burt Lancaster, seguida de El Motin del Caine 1954 con Humphrey Bogart, otra de sus películas importantes fue Río Bravo 1959 como el villano Joe Burdette. En 1960 acompaña a Randolph Scott en el western clásico Estación Comanche. En 1966 coprotagonizó el western El Retorno de los 7 Magnificos con Yul Brynner, en la clásico de guerra, The Devil's Brigade 1968, interpreta a Rockwell 'Rocky' Rockman. En 1970 es dirigido por Vic Morrow en el Spaghetti Western: A Man Called Sledge con James Garner, y en 1973 en la secuela del Planeta de los Simios: Battle for the Planet of the Apes, por J.Lee Thompson.
Televisión
Claude Akins protagonizó gran cantidad de series, miniseries y películas para la televisión, como actor invitado pasó por Bonanza, El Hombre del Rifle, Caravana, La Ley del Revolver, Valle de Pasiones, Alfred Hitchcock Presenta, Los Intocables, Combate,y The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw 1991 con Kenny Rogers. Fue el protagonista principal de las series En ruta (1974-1976), B.J. (1979-1981), El Sheriff Lobo donde interpretó a un divertido comisario.
