El USS Pulaski fue un barco de vapor que sirvió en la Armada de los Estados Unidos. El vapor fue nombrado por Kazimierz Pułaski, soldado polaco y político que ha sido considerado el padre de la caballería estadounidense. Al inicio de su construcción en el año 1854 fue nombrado como Metacomet, hasta que se desempeñó como el USS Pulaski desde 1858 a 1863, cuando fue vendido por la Marina de Estados Unidos.

El Metacomet fue construido en Nueva York, siendo inicialmente fletado por la Armada de los Estados Unidos en 1858 para su uso en la expedición a Paraguay. Durante la expedición, el Metacomet fue comandado por el teniente William H. Macomb. En marzo de 1859 el barco fue dañado y no pudo estar apto ni en condiciones para navegar de nuevo a los Estados Unidos.[1]

El 22 de enero de 1863, el barco se dio de baja y fue vendido en subasta en Montevideo, Uruguay, siendo empleado por la Marina de ese país como el General Artigas. En los primeros meses de 1865 fue adquirido por la marina paraguaya.[2]
